Target Center Ranked Among World’s Best Arenas in 2009
Pollstar, one of the entertainment industry’s leading trade publications, just released its 2009 year-end rankings and Target Center, owned by the City of Minneapolis and managed by AEG Facilities, finished #1 in the Twin Cities, #14 in the United States and #30 worldwide based on the number of event tickets sold in 2009.
“I am extremely proud of this year-end ranking! In 2008, we ranked #16 nationally and this year we moved up to #14. 2009 was an extraordinary year of events and I want to thank our venue staff, management team, promoters and city partners for their dedication and hard work in reaching this goal” said Steve Mattson, General Manager, Target Center. “Additionally, we couldn’t have achieved this ranking without the support of the fans who bought tickets to the events.”
Target Center hosted 15 of the top 50 North American tours of the year including Jonas Brothers, Metallica, Britney Spears, Nickelback, Miley Cyrus, Lil’ Wayne, American Idols Live, Beyonce, and Taylor Swift. Concert promoters bringing these shows to the arena included AEG Live, Jam Productions and Live Nation.
Additionally, Target Center was also recognized in 2009 by Venue’s Today, another leading industry publication, with the Steward of Sustainability award for the successful completion of Target Center’s green roof project. The arena’s green roof is the fifth largest extensive green roof in the U.S. and the largest in Minnesota. It is also the first green roof installed on an arena in North America.
Other AEG affiliated facilities which Pollstar ranked in the top 50 arenas worldwide in 2009 include: O2 Arena (London) - #1, Color Line Arena (Hamburg) - #11, Sprint Center (Kansas City) - #16, Staples Center (Los Angeles) - #25, O2 World (Berlin) - #37, Prudential Center (Newark) - #39 AT&T Center (San Antonio) - #42, AmericanAirlines Arena (Miami) - #49.
